Despite his competition career taking precedence for many years, he is also a successful sire with graded sons and daughters in Germany and is damsire of the Reserve Bundeschampion in 2008 & 2009. In the UK he has sired other SPSS graded sons, a SPSS graded daughter, 2 pony European Championship Team ponies (LE Chiffre (GB), Ella (IRL))and 2 further International Dressage ponies (Cruz & Rosewater I Claudius) and the 2013 Young Dressage Pony Champion and 2014 Novice Open National Champion & 2015 National Medium Champion (Cruz) and Cruz was again National Reserve Champion 2019 at Advanced Medium level.
Dam:
Bernwode Mandy was a State Premium mare who was the 1996 Weser-Ems Champion Mare qualifying for the Bundesstutenschau (Federal Mare Show) where she was the best in her class. After having a foal (My Girl) at 4 years old, Mandy competed in both Dressage and Jumping competitions before being imported to the UK by Bernwode Stud. Mandy's first UK foal, Bernwode Nairobi (by Nibelungenheld IV) is a successful Evening Pony. Mandy's 2005 & 2006 foals were both by Bernwode Brokat and have specialized in dressage with Bernwode Broadway being Champion Stallion at his SPSS Grading in 2010. Mandy moved to Leamside Equestrian in 2007 and had her first foal by Caesar 171 in 2008 followed by Campeggio in 2009 and her final foal, C'est La Vie in 2014. Mandy's German born daughter, My Girl, is the dam of the 2007 6 year old Bundeschampion jumping pony, Handsome Boy. Mandy's dam, Melissa is by the famous Anglo Arab Caid who appears in the pedigree of many successful competition pones.
Damsire:
The German-bred Thoroughbred Apslau was one of the foundation sires of the German Riding Pony breed and his descendants have won over 40K Euros and include Bundeschampions, Stallion Grading Champions, a Pony Eventing Team Gold medallist and top priced auction ponies.
The 152cm German-bred Thoroughbred Apslau was one of the foundation sires of the German Riding Pony breed. The son of the very successful Imperial Eagle and from one of the most established TB mare families, Apslau was a also a successful racehorse before he was licensed by the Weser-Ems, having passed his stallion test in 1988 at the age of 7. Apslau's strength was in producing jumping ponies, particularly eventers, with his stallion son, Aircraft winning Pony European Eventing Championships Team Silver in 2007 and Team Gold in 2008
PERFORMANCE AND PROGENY
As a foal, Godrics Campeggio was Overall Champion at the 2009 SPSS In-Hand Show. He was backed as a 4 year old and then turned away until 6 weeks before the 2014 SPSS grading when he was brought back into work so he could be presented under saddle. Although he was green on the day, his ability still shone through and the judges particularly liked his conformation, canter and temperament.
After the grading, Campeggio started jumping with a 14 year old rider who developed a great partnership with him and in a year took him from his first unaffiliated rounds to confidently jumping in British Showjumping classes finishing 2015 by winning his first BS 1.10m Grand Prix class. Assessed by a Leading International BS Coach as a potential FEI jumping pony, in 2016 Campeggio continued to compete, winning a “1.45m triple bar down and out” against top competition. He has wintered with Stallion AI services for collection of frozen semen before returning to competition with a new pony rider to contest pony classes.
Campeggio has then gone on to compete in the summer of 2018 with 11 year old Codie McGowan in British Showjumping and in 5 short weeks of being together they rose to the top of the Scottish Bronze league and acquired double clears in Novice, Discovery and Newcomers qualifying for the second rounds. With a fabulous win in the Muirmill Derby on his first attempt. With his great technique over a jump and an obvious talent, he will excel in both fields. Codie has now moved onto horses and so during 2019 Campeggio focused on improving his dressage skills. In 2021 he moved to Abigail Gray to begin his journey to FEI level dressage. Selected for his first international in 2022 with an impressive start to FEI. The first few outings at FEI level have them long listed for the European team in 2023.
Godrics Campeggio has been awarded ELITE stallion status for his international debut.
Offspring/Breeding Advice
2015 was Campeggio’s 1st season at stud and his first foals were born in 2016. One of the 2 foals (out of a Welsh Sec B mare) went for SPSS evaluation and was awarded a GOLD Premium. His latest progeny have also impressed in the ELITE foal tour and Oldenburg inspections.
With proven dressage lines via his Elite European Dressage Medallist sire and strong eventing/jumping bloodlines from his dam, Campeggio is an idea choice for those looking to breed athletic and talented Sports Ponies or to "downsize" horse mares without compromising on quality.
