The Brown family breeding program began in 1998 with Bev's Thoroughbred mare as the foundation.
A love of Trakehners and utilising the knowledge and experience gained over the many years and travels worldwide through her work, Bev began shaping her ideas for the creation of what would become Godrics Stud. After a short period working in partnership the stud now returns to being family run.
We have been lucky to have stood a number of Trakehner stallions over the years, Handstreich, Downlands Isolan and Muschamp Korsakof alongside the addition of Caesar 171 where a passion to develop British Bred Sports Ponies began. Looking at the pedigree of the most successful German riding ponies, we see a lot of our British Native ponies from the famous Catherston and Downlands Studs to name a few including excellent TB lines too and we thought why not return some of those lines back to British breeding.
Caesar 171 was our foundation pony stallion and what a place to begin. The addition of some great select mares including some pony mares created a small scale pony breeding program.
Godrics name was chosen as St Godric roamed our land during the later periods of his life till his death in 1170 at Finchale Abbey. It seemed fitting as he was best remembered for his kindness toward animals. Many stories recall his protection of the creatures who lived near his forest and we wanted to honour his presence and somehow he still protects and looks over our land and animals.
Our earlier prefix of LE was used for some of our earlier foals. We continue to use the Godrics prefix.
